2016-01-25 - Hence "frets"
I debated a lot whether to do a comic like this, afraid I wouldn't get it right, but decided that - for me - dealing with mental illness means understanding how debilitating it can be, but also being able to not take it so seriously. I need to do both of those things at the same time, and I need other people to be able to help me with that. So this is what I came up with.
A year of comics! My challenge was to just see if I could publish something three times a week for a year, and I think I only missed the week of Thanksgiving! Thanks everyone for reading and liking and sharing!
And thanks especially to my wonderful wife Erin for encouraging and supporting me as I try to figure out what I'm doing! And a million billion other things!
It is a busy week, so, devoid of ideas, I drew us as Cloud and Red-XIII from Final Fantasy 7.
The mobile game 'Final Fantasy Record Keeper' is really a remarkable achievement of fan-service, collecting characters and events from 14+ games over the past 30 years, and rendering each character as a sprite from the 'Final Fantasy VI' era. This is far from simple - the artists have about a 16x24 pixel grid to work from, and each pixel (placement and color) is really important to conveying a character's likeness.
With this comic, I tried to see if I could do it.
A project I am thrilled to be a part of, all thought up and written by Alice Baxter: Chemistry Rhymes is now live! An interactive, informative periodic table of elements with poems based on folks songs and nursery rhymes! I was lucky enough to get to illustrate!
May is Mental Health Awareness month, so in my comic I'm trying to talk about the topic all through the month - sharing some of my experience and how I'd like to see micro and macro conversations go.
